Lutherkirche Apolda, Apolda
Facts and practical information
The Lutherkirche in Apolda is a Protestant house of worship, whose architectural style can be attributed to the neo-Gothic style. It is located in the city center on Melanchthonplatz and is the largest of Apolda's four houses of worship. The Luther Church was designed by the architect Johannes Otzen and built from 1890 to 1894. Visibly striking from the outside is its borrowing from the brick Gothic style, which is unusual for Thuringia. The historicist interior design, which here unlike most other comparable churches has been preserved unchanged, includes sculptures by Hermann Kokolsky and Wilhelm Haverkamp, the painting by Otto Berg and the colored glass windows from the workshop of Maximilian Auerbach. Also part of the church's original furnishings is the organ by Wilhelm Sauer with 48 stops on three manuals and pedal.
