Kapellendorf moated castle is located in a valley depression of the Sulzbach stream in the middle of the municipality of Kapellendorf, which is located in the middle of the triangle of cities Jena - Weimar - Apolda. The moated castle is one of the largest and best preserved castles in Thuringia. It was founded in the 12th century and is currently used as a museum and as a venue for events. Kapellendorf moated castle is a branch of the Erfurt City Museum.
