Sauerburg is the ruins of a hilltop castle above Tiefenbach, which flows into the Wisper River, in the Taunus Mountains. It stands about four kilometers east of Kaub on the Rhine near the village of Sauerthal in the Rhine-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate. The border with Hesse lies to the east of the castle in the immediate vicinity.
Since 2002, Sauerburg Castle has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
