Villa Urbana
Facts and practical information
The Villa Urbana in Longuich is a Roman villa urbana built on the site of an older villa rustica. Parts of the villa were excavated and reconstructed in Longuich/Mosel on the "Roman Wine Route".
The villa was built in the 2nd century AD and had an extension of 110 by 28 meters. Due to its size and furnishings, it is assumed that it served as the retirement residence of a higher official from nearby Augusta Treverorum.
Remains of walls of the villa were found in 1984 during land consolidation works. They were excavated, conserved and the buildings partially reconstructed. To visit there is a part of the former side wing with bathing facilities consisting of caldarium, tepidarium, sudatorium, frigidarium and praefurnium.
In addition to the villa, the excavations also revealed the remains of other buildings that served mainly agricultural purposes. Also, a stone sarcophagus with the skeleton of a teenage girl was found.
