Metzdorfer Straße
Facts and practical information
The wooden bridge Hohenfichte is a listed object in Hohenfichte.
The covered wooden bridge, 55.5 meters long and 4.6 meters wide, spans the Flöha River, which is 46 meters wide at this point, about five meters above normal level. The permitted vehicle height is three meters, and the roadway is 2.6 meters wide. The maximum load capacity is specified as nine tons. The bridge connects Hohenfichte on the left with Metzdorf on the right side of the Flöha.
Above the bridge rests a roofed wooden structure consisting of a double hanging structure. The apex height of the shingle roof is 7.5 meters. The decking consists of two layers of spruce planks laid at 15° to each other. In the bridge there is a board with historical and technical data.
The first wooden bridge was built on this site as early as 1602 and had to be rebuilt in 1680 and 1714 after being damaged by ice. After being rebuilt again in 1732, the bridge fell victim to a fire during the wars of liberation in 1813. The bridge, rebuilt in 1832, still exists today. When crossing the bridge, escort money had to be paid, for which a bridge toll house was built in 1786.
The bridge suffered damage during natural events such as a tornado in 1954 or the flood disaster in 2002, which could be repaired again. Most recently, the wooden shingle roof was re-roofed in 2007 and the roadway including both sidewalks was renewed.
In its construction, the wooden bridge is comparable to the wooden bridge Hennersdorf.
