Eibsee Cable Car
Facts and practical information
Ascending to the majestic heights of the Zugspitze, Germany's tallest peak, the Eibsee Cable Car offers a journey through the clouds that is as breathtaking as it is unforgettable. This aerial tramway, located in the southern region of Bavaria, presents visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to witness the grandeur of the Alps from an extraordinary vantage point.
The Eibsee Cable Car was constructed to replace the older cable car system and has since become a marvel of modern engineering. It began operations in December 2017, boasting the world's tallest steel tower at 127 meters and breaking records with its 1,945-meter-long unsupported cable span. The cable car carries passengers from the Eibsee lake, situated at the base of the mountain, to the summit of the Zugspitze, which stands proudly at 2,962 meters above sea level.
The journey to the top is an adventure in itself, as the cabins glide smoothly over the rugged landscape, offering a 360-degree panorama of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The trip takes approximately ten minutes, and on a clear day, the views extend far across the German border into Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.
At the summit, visitors are greeted with more than just a stunning view. The Zugspitze Plateau offers a host of activities year-round, from skiing and snowboarding in the winter to hiking and rock climbing in the summer. The top station also features a restaurant where one can dine with the Alps as the backdrop, making for a truly memorable meal.
