Achterdieksee, Bremen
Facts and practical information
The Achterdieksee is a dredged lake in the Bremen district of Oberneuland, which is used as a swimming lake. In addition, it is also used by sport fishermen. The lake, which is directly adjacent to the A 27 freeway, was excavated in 1969 in the course of the construction of the freeway and subsequently converted into a bathing lake as one of four sand extraction sites for the freeway construction.
The lake is fed by groundwater, which is slightly salty due to the influence of the Lilienthal salt dome. It has an outflow in the form of a canal to the freeway ditch. The water quality is eutrophic.
On the western shore of the lake there is a beach with coarse-grained sand. The swimming area is supervised by a DLRG station, which was built in 1974. A wooden bridge runs across the lake, separating the non-swimmer area from the swimmer area. Outside the bathing area, the shore is semi-natural and is lined with woody vegetation and, in places, a reed belt.
