Ehmsendenkmal, Arnsberg
Facts and practical information
The Ehmsen monument in Arnsberg commemorates the forestry councilor and founder of the Sauerland Mountain Association Ernst Ehmsen.
In 1897, the SGV erected a monument in honor of the late Ehmsen. It is a pavilion-like domed structure about 8 meters high. Due to its special acoustics, the monument is also called the Whispering House.
On the front, next to a depiction of Ehmsen, there is an inscription in gold lettering: to his founder SGV and the dates 1891 for the founding of the association and 1897 for the construction of the monument.
The building rises on the eastern side of Eichholz on a rocky outcrop. It offers an impressive view of the old town and new town of Arnsberg.
The structure of the Ehmsendenkmal was last extensively renovated from mid-December 2011 to autumn 2012. The Eichholzverein strives to maintain the Ehmsendenkmal.
