Enger Abbey in Enger in the district of Herford in North Rhine-Westphalia was founded in 947 by Queen Mathilde. It was first consecrated to Mary and Laurentius, later also to Dionysius. It is considered the burial place of Duke Widukind. In 1414 the monastery was moved to Herford. There, the church of St. Johannis in the new town became the collegiate church. The church in Enger became the parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Enger during the Reformation.
