Stauwurzel des Igelsbachsees, Absberg
Facts and practical information
The dam root of the Igelsbachsee is a nature reserve in the central Franconian districts of Roth and Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen.
It is located in the Spalter Hügelland about one kilometer north of Absberg in the Absberg, Kalbensteinberg and Enderndorf districts and covers an area of 25.16 hectares. Since January 25, 1989, it has been registered as a nature reserve under file number NSG-00345.01.
The dam root that gives the lake its name is shielded from the actual Igelsbachsee by a dam. The water surface was created in the course of the Franconian Lake District. The shores are dominated by alder and willow groves as well as reeds, sedge meadows and tall herbaceous vegetation. The western part of the area is a biotope consisting of sedimentation zones, remnants of alder swamp forest and fallow land. Over 100 different bird species have been recorded here.
