Kulturzentrum Bahnhof Langendreer, Bochum
Facts and practical information
The cultural center Bahnhof-Langendreer is a nationally known socio-cultural center in the Ruhr area. It is located in the Langendreer district of Bochum in the former reception building of the train station there.
From 1907 to 1908 the building was erected in modified Art Nouveau style according to the plans of architect Schlomeyer as a replacement of two old station buildings. By 1984, it had reached the end of its useful life and was abandoned. The demolition was prevented by a citizens' initiative, which also carried out the extensive renovation. In 1986, the building was placed under monument protection and is a sight on the Route of Industrial Culture.
It houses gastronomy, two concert and event halls, an arthouse and art house cinema and meeting rooms. The center is run by the Bahnhof Langendreer e. V. association and is supported by the city of Bochum through subsidies. It is the seat of many initiatives and associations. In addition to its main use as an event hall, the large hall is used for various concerts, cabaret, comedy, readings and children's theater, among other things, as a discotheque and can accommodate up to 600 people. As a smaller venue, there is also "Studio 108" for events on a smaller scale.
