Aquis Plaza is a shopping center in Aachen's city center at the eastern end of the Adalbertstraße shopping street. It extends from Willy-Brandt-Platz to Kaiserplatz. After years of preparations and problems, including the purchase of the necessary land, the ECE Group was able to start the demolition and excavation work on the construction site with the groundbreaking ceremony on May 16, 2013. Strabag Real Estate and the Hamburg-based architectural firm Blauraum Architekten are involved in the development of the center. On January 16, 2014, the final building permit was issued by the city of Aachen. The completion of the shell was celebrated with a topping-out ceremony on October 21, 2014. The opening took place on October 28, 2015 and is said to have attracted more than 84,000 visitors.
