Emmeramer Tor, Regensburg
Facts and practical information
The New Emmeramer Gate is one of the five surviving city gates of the medieval city fortifications of Regensburg built around 1320. The well-preserved New Emmeram Gate replaced the Old Emmeram Gate of the Arnulfin city wall built around 920, which was located at the south end of Obere Bachgasse further northeast at the rounding of the city wall between Obermünster and the monastery of St. Emmeram. Until 1907, when the neighboring Helen's Gate was built and Helen's Street was laid out, the Emmeramer Tor was an important access for the people of Regensburg to the Fürst-Anselm-Allee and further to the neighboring village of Kumpfmühl.
