The Balloon Museum Gersthofen in Gersthofen near Augsburg is the oldest balloon museum in the world and is one of the major German technology museums under purely municipal sponsorship.
Initially established in the former Gersthof water tower, it was expanded by a new building in 2003. The new building and the water tower were connected by a basement. Together with the attached municipal library, the Balloon Museum forms a lively cultural center in Gersthofen.
