The village church of St. Nikolai in Altefähr on the island of Rügen is also known as St. Nikolaus zur Fähre because of its location on the former ferry dock. It is located on the Strelasund directly opposite the city of Stralsund and is considered an old seafarer's church, which is also indicated by the patron saint of St. Nicholas. The brick church, whose oldest parts date back to the 15th century, is decorated inside with precious wall paintings from the 15th century as well as numerous ship models.
