Facts and practical information
Chicken Thief is a fountain monument by Berlin sculptor Hermann Joachim Pagels, unveiled at Christmas 1913 at the Aachen Chicken Market. It consists of a bronze figure of a chicken thief mounted on a shell limestone fountain bowl. The figure depicts the moment when the thief is astonished to realize that instead of a chicken he has stolen a rooster, which crows and thus betrays him. However, the scene embodied in the figure is without historical precedent.
