St. Kolumba, Cologne

Completed in 2007, the result is a minimalist masterpiece that embraces the ruins, incorporating them into a contemplative space of worship and remembrance. The design is characterized by its timeless simplicity and the use of natural light, which filters through the patterned brickwork to cast a tranquil ambiance within.

Today, St. Kolumba is more than just a chapel. It is part of the Kolumba Art Museum, which is run by the Archdiocese of Cologne. The museum showcases a collection that spans over a thousand years of art, from medieval to contemporary, all housed within Zumthor's architectural gem. The chapel itself is seamlessly integrated into the museum, allowing visitors to reflect amidst the exhibits or engage in quiet prayer.
