Gładki Wierch / Hladký štít, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Gładki Wierch - one of the lowest peaks of the main Tatra ridge in the High Tatras area, at the same time a keystone for the Liptovské Kopské, which are separated from the ridge in the southwest direction by the Zawory Pass. It lies between the Smooth Kotelnica Mountain Range and the Valentinský Peak in the main ridge.
Smooth Peak is separated from the Walentký Peak by the Smooth Peak Saddle, from which there is a convenient entrance to the peak. In turn, from the Smooth Kotelnica the peak is separated by the Smooth Bench Pass. The part of the ridge between the Smooth Peak and the Black Meadow is called the Kotelnica. Smooth Peak rises above the three valleys: Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich, Dolina Kobylą and Dolina Wierchcichą. From each of the valleys it is easily accessible. The steepest are its north-eastern slopes, but it is not a wall. On the top there is a tectonic crack.
The name of the peak comes from Gładki - the northern grassy slopes descending to the bottom of the Valley of Five Polish Lakes.
The roads leading to the summit were long known to the shepherds. It is impossible to determine the date and the name of the conqueror. The oldest recorded tourist ascents: in summer - Teodor Eichenwald, Ferdynand Rabowski, Jan Bachleda Tajber, Wojciech Tylka Suleja, on August 5, 1902. in winter - Jozef Grabowski with accompanying persons, on February 3, 1912.
In 1929-1930, the summit housed a winter research station for meteorologists from the Jagiellonian University.
