Parzątczak, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Parzątczak - an unclimbed peak of 1486 m in the northern ridge of Volovec in the Western Tatras. It is located in this ridge between Bobrowiec, separated from it by the prominent Juraniowa Pass and Furkaska Pass, from which it is separated by the shallow Furkaska Pass. The Polish-Slovakian border crosses this ridge, as well as the Great European watershed between the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea. From Parzątczak there are 2 side branches: from the peak towards east there is the Przysłop Ridge separating the Długa Valley from the Głębowiec Valley, from the ridge between Parzątczak and Juraniowa Przełęczka there is a short Wałowiec Ridge separating the main stream of the Juraniowa Valley from its branch - the Jaworzynka Juraniowa Valley.
Thus Parzątczak rises above the Slovakian Juraniowa Valley and the Polish Chochołowska Valley. It is forested, but slightly below the peak, in the Przysłop Ridge there is a large glade called Jaworzyna pod Furkaską. A dirt road from the Chochołowska Valley leads through it on the eastern slopes of Parzątczak to Juraniowa Przełęcz. The clearing and the eastern slopes of Parzątczak used to be pastoral area of the Forest Community of Eight Villages, it was part of Jaworzyna pod Furkaskiej Hall. Nowadays this whole area is a part of Slovak and Polish national park. There is no hiking trail leading through it. Formerly existing tourist trail from Umarła Saddle through Juraniowa Saddle and Bobrowiec peak to Bobrowiecka Saddle was closed by TANAP in June 2008.
