Grosse Laache, Pulheim
Facts and practical information
The Große Laache is a wetland at the mouth of the Pulheimer Bach, which is located mainly in the urban area of Pulheim and partly on Cologne territory. The area is characterized by the formation of middle and low terraces of the Rhine. Several ponds upstream of the seepage area clarify the inflowing water and reduce the nutrient content. The seepage water flows to the wells of the Weiler waterworks.
The Small Laache is located one kilometer to the north near the hamlet of Orr. In the past it was transformed into an English garden, which is nowadays overgrown. Nature conservation of the Great Laache is a priority, which is why the Small Laache and its ponds are flooded via a canal only during heavy rains.
