The war memorial of the city of Bernau near Berlin was erected in 1890. It shows a statue of the goddess of victory Victoria standing on a column. It was built in the Wilhelminian style according to plans by the sculptor Friedrich Thiele and received its location at the northern passage of the historic city wall at the inauguration on October 19, 1890. Originally, the monument commemorated the city's fallen soldiers from the German-Danish War of 1864, the Prussian-Austrian War of 1866, and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. Later, the commemoration of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig was also included in the monument.
