Positioned at the boundary where the bustling Ludwigstrasse meets the serene English Garden, this triumphal arch was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to honor the Bavarian army.

Constructed between 1843 and 1852, the Siegestor is a striking neoclassical edifice, designed by Friedrich von Gärtner and completed by Eduard Mezger after Gärtner's death. It draws inspiration from the Arch of Constantine in Rome and is adorned with exquisite sculptures depicting Bavaria and four lions by Wilhelm von Rümann, which symbolize the bravery and strength of the army.

The arch stands at a height of 24 meters, with its central opening offering a grand gateway to the heart of Munich.
