Mahnkesche Mühle, Stralsund
Facts and practical information
The Mahnkesche Mill is the last historic mill in Stralsund. Originally standing on the Mahnkesche meadow, the mill was reconstructed in the Stralsund Zoo.
It is a gallery hollander from the second half of the 18th century with sail gate wings and simple wind rose. In 1958, the mill was converted to an electric drive. The mill was still in operation until 1968.
In 1980, parts of the mill, which also included a granary, a machine house and a mill house, were damaged by fire. The mill, which stood on an area called Mahnkesche Wiesen, was 16.10 meters high. Its diameter was 13 meters at the bottom and 5.30 meters at the lower edge of the roof hood. The cast iron shaft, which was in operation until the 1920s, weighed 3.4 tons and was made by the Stralsund mill factory Otto Hübner.
