St. Thomas Lutheran Church is located in a residential area north of Elmshorn's city center, the Siedlung. It was consecrated in 1964, the plans were drawn by the Elmshorn architect Werner Thee, who equipped it with its distinctive, solitary tower, 41 meters high, which can still be seen from afar.
The sacral space is equipped with a beautiful sounding two-manual Beckerath organ from 1966, it has 2226 pipes and was made in Hamburg. The stained glass windows behind the altar are by the artist Charles Crodel. The peace chandelier next to the altar was made by the blacksmith Henning Holm. The wedding chairs are unique pieces by the artist Marais Meyer from Großbuchwald. He made them from a single elm tree.
The parish has about 3300 parishioners.
