Sankt-Johannes-Kirche
Facts and practical information
The Lutheran church of St. John in Seester, Schleswig-Holstein, is a patronage church of the Uetersen Monastery. St. John's did not become Protestant until 1555, because until then the monastery of Uetersen refused to follow the Danish king's order to reformation.
The church building is situated on a mound lined with tall lime trees. In the old churchyard around the church building there are several gravestones from the 19th century and even older gravestones, the oldest of which is dated 1663. The new cemetery adjoins the terp to the northwest.
The church is the center of a historic building ensemble in the village center of the municipality of Seester, consisting of the pastorate, a former inn, which today houses the church office and the church kindergarten, a hall building, a single-family house, which was formerly occupied by the church sextons, and the church. The group of buildings is protected as a cultural monument of special importance. The owner of St. John's Church, as well as the pastorate, the former inn and the hall building, is the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Seester.
