The Ilvericher Altrheinschlinge is a silted-up oxbow of the Rhine near Meerbusch, named after the adjacent district of Ilverich.
The Ilvericher Schlinge is the only completely closed oxbow loop in unchanged geomorphology on the Lower Rhine. The floodplain landscape with its marshy waters, extensively used wet meadows and farmland, meadows and small floodplain and marshy forest areas and the rich fauna and flora living in them is an official nature reserve and Natura2000/FFH site, embedded in the large-scale landscape conservation area Rheinaue. It is considered one of the most valuable nature reserves in the Lower Rhine region.
