Burg Medinghoven, Bonn
Facts and practical information
Medinghoven Castle was originally a moated castle in Duisdorf, part of the present-day Hardtberg district of Bonn. The present building is listed as an architectural monument.
In the past, the lowland castle was also called Mettekoven, Metinghoven and Medekoven. It is probably the remnant of a former village. Over the centuries, the castle was inhabited by different knightly families, including the Lords of Meynwege, the Lords of Ilem and the family of Nesselrode.
The present villa-like manor house was built after 1834 by Baron Wilhelm von Neuffille in neo-Gothic style. He had the old castle buildings demolished for it. The northern wing of the building dates back to 1896. After the end of World War I, the petrochemist Adolf Spilker acquired the estate, which has been in the family of his descendants ever since.
