Burgruine Weißwasserstelz
Facts and practical information
The castle ruin Weisswasserstelz, also called Hohen- or Neuwasserstelz, is the ruin of a hilltop castle on a hill 340 m above sea level on the northern bank of the Rhine near Hohentengen on the High Rhine in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg.
"Weißwasserstelz" included the "Schloßhof" and the "Guggenmühle" as well as a farm, the later "Zehntscheuer".
Opposite, on a small Rhine island, was Schwarzwasserstelz Castle. The High Rhine flows through a bottleneck here, so that - still in conjunction with Rotwasserstelz Castle a few kilometers to the east - both riverside roads and also the bridge site at Kaiserstuhl and thus all goods traffic could be easily controlled.
