Märchenbrunnen, Magdeburg
Facts and practical information
The Fairy Tale Fountain on Neustädter Platz was erected in a central location in the Neustädter See residential area of Magdeburg as a fountain designed by Annedore and Wolfgang Policek and inaugurated on May 23, 1982.
The fountain is set in the shape of an amoeba. Similar rounded plateaus are stacked in the center of the fountain. On them stand six columns of different heights or fancy creatures with fountains. The columns and fancy creatures made of concrete were originally decorated on a large scale with colored mosaics, which, however, have been lost to a large extent over the years. In 2004, during the renovation of the square, the fountain received a new color coating in very strong shades instead of the mosaics. The fountain surround and the plateaus have been preserved in their original condition.
