Facts and practical information
The craft of bell casting was practiced in the Thuringian town of Apolda from 1722 to 1988.
Bells from the Apolda production hang in numerous sacred buildings on five continents. Bells and chimes for public buildings were also cast. A total of almost 20,000 bells were probably produced in Apolda.
The last casting of a bell took place in the 1980s. In Apolda, the GlockenStadtMuseum and the world bell ringing, which takes place every four years, are reminders of the great tradition of the craft.
