Reformationskirche, Magdeburg
Facts and practical information
The Reformation Church is the Protestant church of Magdeburg's Rothensee district, inaugurated in 1910.
The church building stands in the old village center of Rothensee on the former cemetery surrounded by a rubble stone wall in Turmstraße. It is the third church building after the Romanesque church from the 13th century burned down in the Thirty Years' War and the church rebuilt afterwards had become dilapidated. According to the plans of the Wolmirstedt building councilor Peitsch, construction work began on the new church, which was consecrated as the "Reformation Church" on October 30, 1910. Permission to name the church had previously been granted by the Prussian king and Emperor Wilhelm II as head of the Protestant Uniate Church in Prussia.
A brick building in the historicist architectural style was created, consisting of a nave closed on three sides, to which a square tower with a pointed six-sided pyramid roof was added on the southeast side. The southern side of the nave received two show gables with gothic blind tracery. The nave is 25.70 meters long and 12.30 meters wide. Its roof ridge reaches a height of 16.50 meters, and the spire ends at 32.60 meters. The tower walls are each 5.60 meters long.
Inside, the nave has a wooden barrel vault and an L-shaped southwest gallery. Among the special features of the interior are the two colored windows in the chancel. The neo-Gothic organ, built in 1910 by Ernst Röver from Hausneindorf, was not moved to the Reformationskirche until the mid-1960s from the Immanuelkirche in Magdeburg-Prester. According to the Handbuch der Deutschen Kunstdenkmäler, the neo-Gothic vine and branchwork paintings from the time the church was built no longer exist.
