Wasserburg Vehlefanz
Facts and practical information
Vehlefanz Castle is the ruins of a moated castle in the district of Vehlefanz in the municipality of Oberkrämer in the district of Oberhavel, about 15 kilometers northwest of Berlin.
The name Vehlefanz could be derived from the Slavic words "velij" = big and "vas" = beard. Besides an artificially heaped up mound of earth, today only the ruins of a tower with a small piece of brick wall from the moated castle of the 14th century remain.
The early castle complex was a tower mound, which is rare in the area, and of which the tower mound of more than 7 meters high with a ground diameter of 62 meters and a plateau diameter of 39 meters still testifies. The moat, about 7 meters wide, was almost completely filled in in 1897. In the northwest of the complex there was a rampart.
