Falkenhagener See, Falkensee
Facts and practical information
Falkenhagener See is a lake in Falkenhagen, a district of Falkensee near Berlin in Brandenburg, Germany. Directly adjacent is the smaller lake Neue See. While Falkenhagener See dates from the last Ice Age, Neue See is the remnant of a sand pit excavated in 1934 for the construction of a railroad line. They are interconnected and form a closed inland body of water with no natural connection to other surface waters.
Both lakes are located in a landscape conservation area. They have a certain economic significance due to the inn on the shore, but there is no direct commercial use of the waters. In the early 1990s, Lake Falkenhagen was rehabilitated; the water level, which tends to be too low, is continuously compensated by water from the Havel Canal.
