St.-Pankratius-Kirche, Hamm
Facts and practical information
St. Pancras Church is the oldest and most traditional sacred building of the Catholic Church in the district of Hövel, part of the municipality of Bockum-Hövel of the city of Hamm. According to an uncertain tradition, a church dedicated to St. Pancras is said to have been located at this position as early as after 804 or from about 1025/1030. In the first half of the 12th century, the original wooden church was replaced by a sandstone church. The present church building was erected between 1892 and 1894. After extensive destruction during the Second World War, the church had to be rebuilt between 1954 and 1956. Its pastorate, built in 1564, is a listed building, as are two of the bells located inside the church building, dating from 1511 and 1678.
