Zündhütle, Karlsruhe
Facts and practical information
The Zündhütle is a 40-meter-high drop tower built in 1952/53 in Karlsruhe-Wolfartsweier.
The tower was built by the munitions factory Gustav Genschow & Co. AG as a scrap tower. For this purpose, liquid lead was allowed to rain down through a sieve at the top and the solidified lead balls were collected at the bottom. In 1973, ammunition production on the site was discontinued after the ammunition factory became part of Dynamit Nobel AG in 1963. With the exception of the primer, all of the factory's buildings were demolished. Today, the listed tower serves the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology for meteorological and geodetic research.
