St. Clemens, Cologne
Facts and practical information
Sankt Clemens is a former shipman's church of the Cologne district of Mülheim, now on the right bank of the Rhine. The church, which stands directly on the banks of the Rhine, originated as a Romanesque hall church of the 12th/13th century. For centuries it was a branch church of the parish church of St. Mauritius in Buchheim, was elevated to the status of a parish church after its destruction in 1796 and remained the only Catholic church in Mülheim. With the construction of the new Liebfrauenkirche in 1864, it lost its parish rights and once again became a secondary church. Together with another seven churches, it now belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Clemens and Mauritius, which includes the districts of Mülheim, Buchheim and Buchforst.
