Altes Kurhaus, Aachen

Facts and practical information
The Old Kurhaus of Aachen was built between 1782 and 1786 according to designs by Jakob Couven at Komphausbadstraße 19 as a New Redoute and supplementary building to the neighboring Old Redoute Aachen with the house number 11. In contrast to the Old Kurhaus, the Kurhaus at Monheimsallee 44, which was inaugurated in 1916, is known as the New Kurhaus Aachen, which also housed the Aachen casino until June 11, 2015.
On July 14, 1943, the Kurhaus was burned out during a bombing raid. Between 1965 and 1969, under the direction of the Aachen city conservator Hans Königs, part of the Old Kurhaus with the ballroom was rebuilt. The garden wing with the large concert hall had to make way for a new street layout and was demolished. The course of the former wing of the building is marked today by the so-called Klangbrücke. The building has been a listed building since 1985.
Today, the New Redoute is considered an important spa building of the 18th century. The Redoute was the center of social spa life. The functionally structured building is considered one of the important precursors to the popular spa buildings of the 19th century.
