San Matteo degli Armeni is a church located in one of the most picturesque areas of Perugia, halfway between the Cassero di Porta di Sant'Angelo, with the Temple of Sant'Angelo, and the Franciscan convent of Monteripido. The church is part of the larger monumental complex of San Matteo degli Armeni, consisting of several interconnected "U-shaped" bodies of buildings with a small inner courtyard at the center overlooking the large garden covering an area of about 4800 m².
The church, owned by the Chapter of the Cathedral of St. Lawrence is opened only on special occasions while the monumental complex has since 2012 been home to the San Matteo degli Armeni Municipal Library, which specializes in the themes of peace, nonviolence, human rights, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, with a section that includes the library of Aldo Capitini.
