Museo della Ceramica Giuseppe Mazzotti, Albisola Superiore
Facts and practical information
Giuseppe Mazzotti Manifattura Ceramiche was founded in 1903 by Giuseppe Bausin Mazzotti on the premises in the old village of Pozzo Garitta in Albissola Marina, where he started his own ceramic business, thus becoming the progenitor of the Mazzotti family of ceramists.
To this day, the company is still a family-owned private artisan enterprise aimed at producing ceramic artifacts with entirely manual artistic workmanship.
When the founder died in 1944, he was succeeded by his children Torido, Tullio and Vittoria.
In 1959, the Mazzotti brothers parted ways, resulting in their father Giuseppe Bausin's company coming to an end.
Torido continues his craftsmanship while retaining ownership of the Giuseppe Mazzotti name and the right to the original production of casts and models from his father Giuseppe Bausin Mazzotti's factory.
In 1982 Tullio Mazzotti, son of Giuseppe Bepi Mazzotti and grandson of Torido, began his partnership in the family business.
In 1989 Giuseppe Bepi Mazzotti became sole proprietor following the death of his father Torido the year before...
In 2005 he in turn left the business to his son Tullio, who continued the ceramic business of the glorious Giuseppe Mazzotti in Albisola.
Today the manufactory makes majolica in the styles of the Albisolese tradition; it continues the production of the futurist editions made in the 1930s; and it complements a sought-after design production by collaborating with artists and designers who make use of the manufactory's valuable technical skills.
