Facts and practical information
St. Stephen's Prison is a disused prison facility built in 1795 on St. Stephen's Island.
It was one of the very first prison buildings in the world to be built according to the principles of the Panopticon, enunciated by English philosopher Jeremy Bentham. It is also famous for being the center of the self-proclaimed St. Stephen's Republic for a few weeks.
