The co-cathedral basilica of Saints Maurice and Companions Martyrs is the principal place of Catholic worship in Imperia, Liguria; a minor basilica since September 22, 1947, it is the seat of the parish of the same name and co-cathedral of the diocese of Albenga-Imperia.
The building, which was built in the Neoclassical style based on a design by Gaetano Cantoni starting in 1781 and finished in 1838, was built according to canons of pomp and majesty as a testament to the wealth of the Maritime Republic of Genoa and Porto Maurizio.
It is the largest church in all of Liguria: in fact, its exterior dimensions are about 70 × 42 m, with a total area of about 3000 m². The bell towers are about 36 m high and the top of the main dome lantern about 48 m. The interior dimensions are 69 × 35 m; the main dome is 33 m high, the secondary dome 23 m high.
