Giardino dei Tarocchi

Nestled in the picturesque Tuscan countryside of Italy, the Giardino dei Tarocchi is a whimsical and enchanting park that beckons visitors into a fantastical world. This magical garden, spanning over two hectares, is the brainchild of the French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle, who was inspired by the monumental sculptures of Antonio Gaudi's Parc Güell in Barcelona.

Opened to the public in 1998, the Giardino dei Tarocchi, or Tarot Garden, is an artistic representation of the 22 Major Arcana cards found in a tarot deck. Each sculpture is a vibrant, larger-than-life embodiment of the tarot cards, meticulously crafted with a dazzling mosaic of mirrors, colored glass, and ceramic tiles. The sculptures are not only visually striking but also architectural marvels, with some offering interior spaces where visitors can wander and contemplate the interplay of art and nature.

The centerpiece of the garden is the towering figure of the Empress, which doubles as a building covered in brilliant reflective pieces. This sculpture, in particular, showcases Saint Phalle's unique style, combining her artistic vision with architectural prowess. The Empress, along with the other 21 sculptures, creates a surreal and interactive experience that transports visitors into a dream-like realm.

The Giardino dei Tarocchi is more than just a park; it is a testament to Niki de Saint Phalle's dedication and personal journey. She spent over 17 years creating this esoteric garden, pouring her passion and life into the project, which also served as her residence during its construction.
