Schloss Schenna, Riffian
Facts and practical information
Scena Castle is a castle erected in the year 1350 in the village of the same name near Merano, South Tyrol. In 1363 the noble Petermann von Schenna was also enfeoffed by the Habsburgs with Reineck Castle in the Sarntal valley.
Inside the castle in the Renaissance rooms is a collection of antique weapons. The vast halls are all furnished with 17th-century stoves and a collection of paintings and portraits, a valuable collection by Andreas Hofer.
It was purchased in 1844 by Archduke John of Habsburg-Lorraine. Not far from the castle, his son had his family mausoleum erected in 1869, which still stands today. To this day the castle remains in the ownership of his successors, the Counts of Meran. Guided tours are given with admission fee.
