Castello Svevo, Oria

The castle of Oria occupies the Vaglio hill the highest part of the city, about 166 m above sea level on an area inhabited since the earliest periods. In fact, this area was occupied by the Messapian acropolis, which was probably provided with walls around the 6th century B.C. as is still partly visible a few hundred meters below in the cathedral square.
