Facts and practical information
The tower of Chia is a coastal tower of Domus de Maria, located not far from the beach of Chia. The building stands on a promontory where the acropolis of the ancient center of Bithia was originally located.
The tower was erected in 1578 and was originally called I Santi de Quaranta de Quiat; it was built to defend the mouth of the rio di Chia, which was a source of water supply for pirates.
It was built of limestone and has a height of about 13 m and a diameter of more than 10 m.
