Diocesan Museum, Spoleto
Facts and practical information
The Diocesan Museum of Spoleto is located inside the Archbishop's Palace, in the wing called the "Cardinal's Apartment."
Inside the rooms, adorned with 16th-century doors and ceilings largely decorated in the 18th century, are paintings from periods between the 13th and 18th centuries by artists such as Domenico Beccafumi, Filippino Lippi, the Master of the Straus Madonna, and Sebastiano Conca.
The sculpture section is also notable, offering a series of specimens representing a Madonna and Child dating from the 13th and 14th centuries and a bust of Urban VIII executed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
At the end of the visit, from the Sala del Berengario, known as the Passetto, where liturgical vestments and silverware from the 17th and 18th centuries are on display, we enter the church of St. Euphemia, with architectural features that make it unique in the local panorama, and which houses 15th-century frescoes of the Umbrian school and a 12th-century antependium on the high altar.
