The church of St. Peter the Apostle is a religious building that overlooks Contrà San Pietro now Via San Pietro in Padua. The church already existed in the 4th century, although it underwent reconstruction in the late 11th century. Until 1809 it was the parish and church of the Benedictine nuns who had the title of canonesses respecting a royal privilege of the 9th century. Ludovic II on April 22, 866 united it to the episcope of Padua. The church is an extraordinary complex in which building and decorative phenomena ranging from medieval to neo-Gothic overlap. Today it is a rectory subject to the Cathedral.
