Turin Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, is an exquisite emblem of religious architecture nestled in the heart of Turin, Italy. Renowned for housing the Shroud of Turin, a revered relic believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ, this cathedral holds a significant place in both religious and cultural spheres.

Constructed between 1491 and 1498, Turin Cathedral stands on the site of three churches that were previously demolished to make room for the new structure. The cathedral is the only example of Renaissance architecture in the city, with its façade presenting a harmonious blend of Renaissance and Baroque elements. The design was the work of Meo del Caprino, who was inspired by the contemporary works in Lombardy.

The cathedral's interior is equally impressive with its three naves and numerous chapels adorned with works of art from prominent artists of the time. The main altar and its lavish decorations draw attention, while the Royal Gallery showcases the connection to the House of Savoy, which played a significant role in the history of the region.

However, it is the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, added to the cathedral in the 17th century by Guarino Guarini, that attracts the most attention. Though the chapel was severely damaged by fire in 1997, it has been restored and continues to be a site of pilgrimage and intrigue for visitors from around the world.
