Nestled in the historic heart of Sardinia's capital, Cagliari Cathedral stands as a testament to the city's rich religious and architectural heritage. Officially named the Cathedral of Santa Maria and often referred to as the Duomo di Cagliari, this church is a centerpiece of the city's old town, known as Castello.

The cathedral's origins date back to the 13th century, but it has undergone numerous renovations and expansions over the centuries, resulting in a blend of architectural styles. Its current facade, adorned with white limestone, reflects a neoclassical influence and was completed in the 1930s, replacing the original medieval frontage.

Inside, the cathedral is equally impressive, with a Latin cross floor plan and three naves separated by pillars. It houses a rich array of art, from the pulpit crafted in the 12th century by Guglielmo from Pisa to the numerous chapels that line the naves. Among these, the most notable is the Chapel of the Holy Martyrs, which contains relics of Saints Saturninus, George, and Lucifer, and showcases a stunning Baroque altar.

The cathedral also features a crypt, which holds the remains of members of the House of Savoy and other notable figures from Sardinian history. The ornate ceiling frescoes and the intricate marble work throughout the church further enhance its aesthetic and historical significance.
