Castello, Desenzano del Garda
Facts and practical information
Desenzano Castle is a fortified building overlooking the town of Desenzano del Garda, in the province of Brescia.
Built in the 11th century with four corner towers possibly on a Roman castrum, it was always considered strategic from a defensive and military point of view, as it was equipped inside with some dwellings. Around 1030 Emperor Henry II assigned the county of Desenzano and with it the castle to rural Count Boson I.
At the end of the 19th century it passed into state ownership and housed a military garrison in which Alpine soldiers and bersaglieri found a place.
In 1969 it became municipal property and hosts exhibitions and conferences in its halls.
